Privacy Notice

This notice explains how What’s Your Number? (“we”, “us”) collects and uses personal data when you use our platform. We are the data controller for the purposes of the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

What we collect

Account & identity: your name, email address, role (seller, buyer or advisor), and — for sellers — the Companies House officer record you use to verify control of your business (we store the month and year of your date of birth only; never the day).
Profile & listing data: the information you choose to provide about your business, firm, or buying mandate, including private details that remain hidden until you grant access.
Transactions: subscription and payment status. Card details are handled directly by our payment processor and are never stored by us.
Usage & security data: audit logs of key actions, and technical data needed to keep the service secure.

How we use it

To provide the marketplace: verify sellers, run access requests, and enable conversations.
To take payment for subscriptions and one-off purchases.
To send service emails (e.g. confirming a listing or an access approval).
To keep the platform secure, prevent abuse, and meet our legal obligations.

Our lawful bases are performance of our contract with you, our legitimate interests in operating a secure marketplace, and compliance with legal obligations.

Who we share it with

We use trusted processors to run the service: authentication (Clerk), payments (Stripe), database and hosting (Neon, Vercel), email delivery (Resend), and company verification (Companies House). They process data only on our instructions. We do not sell your personal data.

Seller identity and private business details are disclosed to another user only when you, the seller, explicitly grant access — and only the specific fields you choose to reveal.

Retention

We keep personal data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, accounting, and security requirements. Audit records are retained in line with our regulatory obligations.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal data, and to object to processing or request portability. To exercise any of these, email hello@whatsyournumber.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
